Democracy and Welfare Society

Willingness to pay

Why are most citizens of Norway wiling to contribute to financing the welfare state? There are several reasons for this, including the following:

  • No one knows when they will become sick and need help from the public health care system. The welfare state is considered a type of insurance and it is comforting for people to know that they will get the help they need.
  • Numerous laws and measures have gradually been implemented that give citizens benefits and rights that are important for them to retain.

A welfare model

like the one used in Norway is expensive and requires solidarity and willingness on the part of the population to contribute financially through, among other things, taxes and duties.
